After the glorious weather we saw over the Easter weekend it really feels like summer is on the way-let’s hope the sunshine is here to stay. We had a great Easter being kept busy by all our guests.
May is one of my favourite months of the year-maybe I’m biased as it’s also my birthday month! But the trees are blossoming and bluebells are popping up. A fabulous carpet of blue bells can be seen on the walk to Mill gill force in Askrigg. They should be in abundance from middle May. Our rose bush at the front of Milton House is starting to bud too, it has the most wonderful scent and lots of people stop as they are walking past to take in the lovely scent.
Not one but two Bank Holidays in May will certainly be keeping us busy and there are all sorts of events going on in the local area for guests to enjoy.
The second Bank Holiday weekend sees the now famous scarecrow competition in Askrigg. We are once again taking part and the theme this year is Children’s Books. You’ll have to wait and see what our chosen book is…it’s a work in progress at the moment! Last year we had Dolly Parton proudly displayed just outside of out front door and she definitely caught peoples attention!
Bank Holiday Monday afternoon sees Askrigg host a children’s sports event with races, games and a tea on the field for the children. In the early evening there’s a fancy-dress parade too- adults and children enter this and there is a parade up the village, it’s a very popular event! We are also lucky to have visits from the Morris Dancers as well on this weekend, dancing round the market cross.
The famous Swaledale festival kicks off at the end of May, running into June. Concerts and music events are held in St Oswalds Church Askrigg as well as lots of other locations across the Dales. The event is spectacular and is always popular with visitors and locals.
The fields and woodlands will be flowering as the summer meadow flowers begin to grow. May is such a pretty time of year and it only gets better as we head into the summer months!
