Askrigg is a Yorkshire Dales Village of character. With its tall three storied houses, leading up the sloping street from St Oswalds Church, which itself has origins as far back as the 12th century.
There are 3 pubs in the Village serving food at lunch time and evenings.
Kings Arms Hotel with a traditional bar, serving meals in the Bar or Restaurant lunch times and evenings. The White Rose Hotel a cosy bar, pool room, conservatory restaurant and Beer Garden. Meals served lunchtime and evening.
The Crown Inn which is just over the road Cosy Bar with open fires, lunch time and evening meals. They also do hot take out home cooked meals. We have a local local deli The Bake-Well that sell all manner of pies quiches salads and home cooked take away meals, delicious cakes and bread.
A well stocked village shop Sykes Store for all essentials and newspapers .
While the village may be quiet you won’t be at a loss of things to do when heading here for your break in the Yorkshire Dales. We’re lucky enough to have 3 pubs in the village along with a village shop and our very own brewery who’s beers are sold in all three of our local pubs.
When visiting the Yorkshire Dales it can be difficult to decide just where to head for! There are so many beautiful towns and villages across the area from busier market towns such as Leyburn, Richmond and Hawes well worth a visit to hidden villages including Carperby and Redmire. Not only will we welcome you to our bed and breakfast we will help you plan the perfect stay in the Yorkshire Dales. Having worked in many different areas of the Dales from Richmond to Hawes Reeth to Aysgarth, we have a wealth of knowledge of the area, helping you explore all the best spots across Wensleydale, and neighbouring Swaledale.
Venture a little further and you’ll find a whole host of local attractions including to suit anyone no matter what you’re interested in. To begin exploring the area a great place to start is Mill Gill Force, a spectacular local waterfall just a 15 minute walk from our front door. If you’re looking for something a little bigger it’s just a short drive to Teesdale where you’ll find High Force. You’ll see the River Tees cascading 25 meters down rocks which date back over 300 million years, a real sight to see and a great stop off on your way to the Cathedral city of Durham to check out where Harry Potter was filmed!
Less than a 15-minute drive from us you can delve into both history and film with a visit to Bolton Castle and Aysgarth Falls. Both were used to film scenes for the box office hit Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner.
We might be biased but we really do think that Askrigg is the perfect place to base your stay in the Yorkshire Dales. We give our guests so many tips they’re often soon back to see us to fit in more of our local sights!
